Road concession for Itinerary 2 – Zaragoza West (Spain)
AIGI Ibérica, a company controlled by Ascendi in partnership with construction companies from the Aragón region, has completed the rehabilitation and construction works associated with the road concession for Itinerary 2 – Zaragoza West, ahead of the contractual deadline of January 2027. The concession now enters the full operation and maintenance phase, which will run until 2049.
The completion of this phase represents a significant milestone for Ascendi’s presence in Spain and marks the culmination of work carried out since July 2024 across a network spanning 161.5 kilometres, comprising the A-121, A-122, A-202 and A-220 roads.
The works programme involved a comprehensive range of rehabilitation and construction interventions aimed at modernising the infrastructure and enhancing road safety conditions. Environmental integration and wildlife protection measures were also implemented.
“The completion of the works represents an important milestone for Ascendi and for the Aragón concession. The renewal of this extensive and technically demanding network demonstrates the experience and capabilities of our teams in managing road infrastructure throughout its entire life cycle”, says Luis Silva Santos, CEO of Ascendi.
With a 25-year contractual term, the project now enters a full operation and maintenance cycle, based on a long-term management model that ensures infrastructure preservation, traffic safety and high levels of service quality. Operational activities include infrastructure monitoring, preservation and maintenance, as well as traffic management and incident response.
The completion of the works in Aragón strengthens Ascendi’s international presence and its expertise in road infrastructure management, demonstrating its ability to oversee every stage of the infrastructure life cycle, from construction, rehabilitation and modernisation to long-term operation and maintenance.
